Beaded Bracelet or Bangle? Choosing the Form

Compare a clasped bead bracelet with slip-on, hinged and open rigid styles. Explore BE.’s 6 mm strands and the measurements each form needs.

Compare the structure and opening

A bead bracelet can use different stringing materials and closures. A rigid bangle may slide over the hand or open on a hinge; an open cuff offers another rigid form. [1][2] Look at how the actual piece opens before deciding which construction you prefer.

Construction How it goes on Dimensions to check
BE. clasped bead strand Open the magnetic clasp and close the strand around the wrist Finished strand length and product sizing guidance
Closed slip-on bangle Pass the intact bangle over the hand Inner diameter or inner dimensions, plus the opening needed to pass over the hand
Hinged bangle Open the hinged section and close it around the wrist Inner dimensions and the design’s fitting guidance
Open rigid cuff Use the opening according to the design’s fitting method Inner dimensions, opening and any specific fitting instructions

The beaded crystal bracelet guide explains materials, stringing and closures in more detail. Beads describe one part of a bracelet; the support and closure complete its construction.

Choose the outline you want to wear

A bead strand makes individual stones part of the design. Each bead has its own contour, and the sequence repeats those shapes around the bracelet. Choose this form when the arrangement of separate beads is what draws your attention.

A rigid bangle offers a defined shape formed by the body of the piece. If that fixed outline appeals to you, keep it at the centre of your choice. Then decide whether you want a closed form, a hinged opening or an open cuff.

Opening method is a separate consideration from appearance. A clasped bead strand and a hinged bangle can both open around the wrist, even though their structures look different. A closed bangle needs to pass over the hand. [1][2] Decide how you want to put the piece on, then choose the form and material together.

Two 6 mm bead strands at BE.

Once you have chosen a clasped bead strand, colour gives you a further decision. These two BE. designs use 6 mm round beads, a stainless steel wire core and a magnetic clasp. Both offer finished lengths of 6.5 and 7.5 inches.

BE.’s BE. Crystal 4T™ framework gives context to the material assessment. The product details bring the bead dimensions, stone and construction together.

Clear quartz for a colourless sequence

Choose clear quartz if you want colourless stone repeated through the bracelet. The round beads keep the same basic shape throughout, allowing the material to remain the focus within the sequence.

The Clear Quartz 6mm Strand Bracelet provides this option with a magnetic clasp. Select its finished length using the sizing guidance for the strand.

Amethyst for a purple sequence

Choose amethyst if you want purple to run through the same round-bead format. This keeps your chosen structure while giving the bracelet a different colour.

The Bolivian Amethyst 6mm Strand Bracelet combines those purple beads with a stainless steel wire core and magnetic clasp.

Match the measurement to the construction

Wrist circumference, finished strand length and bangle inner diameter describe different things. Keep them separate when comparing designs.

For a clasped strand, begin with your wrist measurement. The wrist measuring guide explains how to obtain it. Then use the BE. size guide alongside the selected product’s dimensions. The 6.5 and 7.5 inch options above describe the finished strands.

For a closed bangle, the opening must pass over the hand as well as provide the intended fit at the wrist. Check the inner diameter or stated inner dimensions using that design’s sizing method. [1] A wrist measurement alone leaves out the hand passage.

For hinged bangles and open cuffs, follow their specific fitting guidance. An open gap does not establish that a cuff is designed to be bent or adjusted.

With either BE. strand, open the magnetic clasp to put it on or take it off. Handle the closure without pulling on the beads.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. Are all beaded bracelets elastic?

No. The BE. clear quartz and amethyst strands described here use a stainless steel wire core and a magnetic clasp. Put them on by opening the clasp and closing it around your wrist.

Q2. Do all bangles slip over the hand?

No. Closed slip-on bangles do. Hinged bangles open, while open cuffs have a gap. Check the opening method of the particular design before deciding how it should be put on.

Q3. Is strand length the same as wrist circumference?

No. Strand length describes the finished jewellery; wrist circumference describes your wrist. The 6.5 and 7.5 inch options for these BE. strands are product lengths. Use the product’s sizing guidance to choose between them.

Q4. Which measurement matters for a rigid bangle?

Check its stated inner diameter or inner dimensions. A closed slip-on bangle also needs to pass over your hand. Hinged and open designs have their own fitting requirements, so use the guidance for the particular piece.
